On April 28, 2023, the City of Wilmington received word from the Ohio Department of Development that it will award the city another $1.4 million in grant funding from the JobsOhio 629 Roadwork Fund, pending approval by the State Controlling Board in May. These funds will be used to fund Phase II of the Davids Drive Reconstruction project. 

“Davids Drive is a vital corridor,” said Wilmington Mayor John Stanforth. “I am so pleased that the state is continuing to support its rehabilitation, which will allow for the continued growth of our City.”   

“This successful grant application is another example of my administration’s commitment to use every available grant dollar to leverage local funding,” Stanforth continued. “I must thank the Clinton County Port Authority for their expert assistance in this grant process.”

The Davids Drive Phase II project is estimated to cost $2.4 million and will extend the work zone of the current Davids Drive construction by 0.7 miles to the east, terminating between Olinger and Fife Avenue, near the entrance of CannAscend Processing. The project includes widening this section of road to three lanes, full-depth pavement reconstruction, curb and gutter work, drainage improvements, signage, and pavement markings.

Phase I of the Davids Drive rehabilitation, currently under construction, is being fully funded by grant dollars from the Ohio Department of Transportation and a grant and zero-percent loan from the Ohio Public Works Commission.

The funding from the Ohio Department of Development is the result of a collaboration between the Clinton County Port Authority (CCPA) and the City of Wilmington. The CCPA was instrumental in applying and advocating for the $1.4 million dollar grant from the Roadwork Development (629) Fund. “We appreciate the Ohio Department of Development’s consideration of investment in this critical economic corridor,” said Clinton County Port Authority Executive Director Alex Beres. “The Port Authority prides itself on its ability to source additional funding and provide financing tools to development projects throughout the county, and Davids Drive is just the most recent example of our work on these efforts.”
